History of Wintergreen Essential Oil:

Wintergreen, or Gaultheria procumbens, is a small plant that originates from North America. This plant was widely used by Native Americans for its medicinal properties, especially to relieve the pain of rheumatism, backache, fever, and headaches. Wintergreen is also used to improve breathing during upper respiratory infections.

The leaves of the Wintergreen plant are used to produce the essential oil. They are first fermented before being steam distilled. Wintergreen essential oil is known for its high content of methyl salicylate, a compound that has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.
